Freguently Asked Questions
Question #1: I didn't get my email confirmation?
Answer: Start at the Varolo website log in screen where you would normally enter your email & password, don't enter anything yet, there's a tiny phrase that says"Didn't receive the confirmation link?", click that then you get another screen where you enter your email, password & village name. Click the button that says "Activate" and you should be in. FYI-Any new member can activate this way without even bothering with the confirmation email.
Question #2: Can I join more than one village and can someone already in a village join mine?
Answer: If you are new to Varolo, there is a big misunderstanding about joining. I often see it on Varolo FB from new members. Each person can only join one village. The point of Varolo is that advertisers want different consumers to watch their ads so as to spread their brand. One consumer pretending to be many would not be fair to the advertiser.
Question #3: On the Varolo registration page, I can't get past entering the city & state. What can I do to complete my registration?
Answer: Small glitch. Start over and get a brand new registration page, enter the city and state FIRST, also the birth month & year would be a good idea, then fill out the rest of the form with name, email, etc, etc. That seems to fix the problem.
Question #4 When are the jackpot winners notified?
Answer: As soon as the winner is selected, we notify them immediately. We have been attempting to do this by way of telephone (if the phone number is listed in the profile). If phone is not available, we use email. We also attempt to find the winner on Facebook. We give the winner 72 hours to respond to us. If they do not, a new winner is selected. Once the winner has contacted us, we notify any and all “splash up” winners. They also have 72 hours to contact us or their winnings are forfeit. Splash-up winners we only notify by email.
Question #5 How is the jackpot winner picked?
Answer: Each ad viewed counts as a jackpot entry. At the end of the week (which is based on GMT…the international date line) which is Saturday at 8:00 EDT, 5:00 PDT, the current weeks jackpot ends and a new one begins. The system then randomly selects the winner from all qualified entries from that week.
Question #6 How can I use Facebook to promote my village
Answer: Well there are several ways to do this. First, you can simply take your custom link (which is on your village page and your profile page) and post it to your wall, or your friends walls with a message about Varolo. If they click on it, they will go to the 2 minute video and if they sign up, they will be in your village. Another way is by sending emails to your friends. We suggest individual facebook messages (because it will be more effective) but if you have too many friends, you can send the same message to up to 20 people at a time. A third day is to use the Varolo facebook application. After you connect your Varolo profile to Facebook, you can do a number of things to market Varolo to your friends. You can share your status updates regarding achievements, jackpot entries and more as posts. You can go into your village and post your link to your friends walls. You can also install the Facebook application on a personal Varolo fan page and then promote the fan page to your friends. If you do this, you can offer a free jackpot entry to your friends for signing up through your page.
Question #7 How do I use banner ads?
Answer: Many users want to promote and grow their village using banner ads. Varolo has provided several banner ads in standard formats and sizes. These are available on your Village tab in the bottom left corner. Naturally people want to know to to use them. Unfortunately there is no one single way to do this. It completely depends upon the website, blog, forum or other place you are using those ads. The key is to tie the banner ad to your custom link. So when you are posting the ad, usually the system will ask you for the URL or LINK to be associated with the banner ad. You will want to use your custom link from your village page or profile page. That way, anyone that clicks on the banner ad will see the 2 minute video and if they sign up, they will go directly in your village.
Question #8 Can more than 1 person in a household join Varolo?
Answer: Yes! Any individual person can have a Varolo account. No one is allowed to have more than one Varolo account. The same computer can be used by several people to use Varolo. This is often the case in a home with several people that share a computer to use Varolo. Advertisers want to target people individually with ads so we encourage each and every person to have their own Varolo profile.
Question #9 Can someone already in Varolo join my village?
Answer: No. If someone is already in Varolo, the cannot be in your village as well. Your village is made up of people that are new to Varolo. As they join, their villages are made up of new people to Varolo. You must sponsor new people into Varolo to grow your village.
Question #10 I want to communicate with my village
Answer: Many Varolo users would like to communicate with their villagers to help them get started and help make them successful. You can do this from your Village page after logging in. There is a window that shows new villagers that allows you to send them a message. You can also go into your village map and click on the envelope icon next to users in your village and send them a message. You are only allowed to email those people you have personally sponsored (your first degree of separation). You are not allowed to send messages to those they have sponsored or others in your village.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOUR MESSAGES WILL COME FROM VAROLO…NOT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS. This could mean that those messages end up in SPAM folders if those you sponsor have not added Varolo to their safe senders list. While we encourage users to do this at the time they sign-up, many do not and therefore don’t get future messages.
When you send a villager a message, you may want to include your personal email address so they can communicate to you directly.
When sending messages to villagers, it is best if the message is short and not contain any words that can easily get caught in SPAM filters such as “FREE” or “Jackpot”, etc. We would encourage you to send a brief message letting your new villager know that you are there to help and give them your email to contact you with any questions.
Question #11 Getting repeat ads?
Answer: Some users complain about a lot of repeat ads. They desire a greater variety of ads. Here are a few things to remember.
1) As Varolo gets more popular, more advertisers and ads will be in the system naturally creating more diversity and variety of ads. Please be patient as we continue to grow
2) Varolo always presents the most expensive ads first so that users can make the most money. If an advertiser has the highest paying ad, it is not uncommon to have that ad repeat several times in a single session. Know that you are getting credit each and every time the ad is viewed, even if it is a repeat. Remember that advertisers like to reinforce their messages to consumers through repetition.
Question #12 Getting the “out of ads” message?
Answer: If you are getting the “out of ads” message, it means that Varolo currently doesn’t have any additional ads to show you. Most users are getting at least 20 ads/day from Varolo. This is enough to satisfy the weekly requirement of 140 ads. Some users get 30 or more ads a day. It is completely dependent upon which advertisers are targeting which user groups. This week there may be more advertisers targeting women between the ages of 25 and 34 and next week more might be targeting men on the west coast of the U.S. It changes frequently. Here are a few key points to keep in mind when you run out of ads.
1) You can select additional channels which may increase the number of ads you see.
2) The system resets each day on GMT time (8:00pm EDT and 5:00pm PDT). Most users limit the number of times an ad can be seen by a user in a day. So after 8:00pm EDT, you will likely have a whole new set of ads to view. Because we have to stay syncronized based on the international date line, many people get confused. They watch ads late one night and run out of ads. The next morning they login and they still don’t have ads. This is because that is technically the same day to the Varolo system.
3) Advertisers add new campaigns to the system all of the time. So if you do run out of ads, you may want to check back later in the same day to see if there are more available. As Varolo becomes more popular this will be less and less of a problem.
4) Most advertisers put a daily cost limit on their campaings. Which means once enough people have watched their ad, it stops playing. So users that watch the ads earlier in the day (beginning at 8:00pm EDT) tend to get more ads then those that watch them later…especially if the advertiser doesn’t have a large advertising budget.
Question #13 Where do I find the ads to watch?
Answer: We have tried to make it as easy as possible to watch the ads available. Login to Varolo and on the “Home” screen in the main window is says “select next ad to view” and presents you a list of 3 advertisements to choose from. Click on any of these three and the ad will begin playing in that same window. If you are just getting started with Varolo, we encourage you to watch the training videos under the “need help getting started” link just below your name at the top of the page after logging in.
Question #14 Problems logging in?
Answer: If you are having problems logging into Varolo, here are a few helpful hints.
Passwords are case sensitive.
You can have your password reset from the login page or here: http://www.varolo.com/password.php. You are required to know the email address that you registered with. If you haven’t added contactus@varolo.com to your safe senders list, you may not get the email required to confirm your password change. Add us to your safe senders list or just send us an email prior to resetting your password. Sending an email usually adds us to your safe senders list.
If you still cannot login, send an email to contactus@varolo.com and we can help you resolve the issue. Be sure you send this email from the email account registered with Varolo.
Question #15 Didn’t get your confirmation link?
Answer: Varolo requires all users to confirm their Varolo accounts. When you register with Varolo, an email is sent to the email address provided with a link that must be clicked on to activate your Varolo account. Unfortunately, many users email addresses will filter these messages as SPAM and the user never gets the confirmation email. Therefore, the first thing a user should do if they didn’t get the confirmation email is to check their SPAM folder.
VAROLO WILL NEED TO CONTACT YOU VIA EMAIL IF YOU WIN THE JACKPOT SO BE SURE TO ADD CONTACTUS@VAROLO.COM TO YOUR SAFE SENDERS LIST OR EMAIL US RIGHT NOW A “HELLO” MESSAGE WHICH SHOULD ALSO ADD US TO YOUR SAFE SENDERS LIST.
Users are also allowed to login 3 times prior to confirmation using a link provided at the time of registration.
If you don’t have that link and didn’t get the confirmation email, you can also confirm your account manually here: http://www.varolo.com/confirmation.php. You are required to know your village name that you setup at the time of registration.
If for some reason, none of these methods will work for you, you can also email us at contactus@varolo.com and ask that your account be activated.
Question #16 Is Varolo available on mobile devices?
Answer: Currently Varolo is not available on mobile devices. We plan to release a Varolo mobile application on popular smart phones which will allow users to watch and rate ads on the go. Users will also be able to use their mobile phones to present coupons or other discount inforomation to retailers. Stay tuned and we will announce this as we get closer. To stay connected to Varolo, please subscribe to Varolo on twitter at #varolovillage or on our Facebook fan page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Varolo/112841865422831
Question #17 What about Taxes?
Answer: If you are a U.S. citizen, then any earning you have over $600 are subject to being taxed. For this purpose, we require users to fill out a 1099 form and send it back to us before they reach $600 in earnings. If we don’t get a 1099 form back from the user, we cannot may payouts to that user beyond $600 until we do. We report all users with earnings over $600 to the IRS as required by U.S. law.
International users are responsible for their own tax issues as it relates to Varolo earnings. Most do not have any requirement to report earnings from Varolo, but the tax laws in each country are different and you should ask your tax professional about any requirements you have. Varolo is not required to report earnings to any international government or entitiy.
Question #18 Can I change sponsors?
Answer: Varolo discourages changing your sponsor and generally doesn’t do it for users. However, there are a few cases where this is necessary. Some people make a mistake and want to be sure they are signed up under the person that originally introduced them to Varolo. In these cases, the person that wants to change their sponsor needs to email contactus@varolo.com and request the move. They need to provide the email address of the individual they want to move to.
Every once in a while, someone requests being moved from one sponsor to somone else because they don’t like, or no longer want to be sponsored by Varolo. Again, we discourage this because if that person is the one that introduced you to Varolo, they should get credit for your involvement. But if the situation is such that the user will simply leave Varolo if they are not moved, we will CONSIDER it. But we will only do this shortly after registering. If you are within the first week after enrollment, we will likely move you. After that time, we will likely not move you.
Question #19 How do I use Varolo Coupons?
Answer: Some Varolo advertisers present users with coupons, promotions or discounts with their ad. You can save these coupons and promotions to your Varolo Vault so you can use them later. When you are ready to use the coupon, simply go to your Varolo Vault and select the coupon and print it to your printer and present it to the retailer. If it is a promotional or discount code, you can use it online. There is usually a place upon checkout where you can place these codes to receive your discount.
Eventually, Varolo will have a smart phone application so you can have your coupons on your phone and no longer have to print them out. You can just show the retailer the coupon on the phone or scan it using a POS scanner at the time of checkout.
Question #20 How often do users get paid?
Note - If you haven’t watched the compensation video, it is extremely important that you do so. It can be found at http://blog.varolo.com/flash/VaroloComp.html.
Answer: Village earnings are generated and claimed throughout the week. Once the week is complete, any claimed earnings will be moved to the users Vault. It can take up to 24 hours after the week has ended to have your earnings transfer to your vault. The week begins Sunday morning at 12:00am and goes to midnight Saturday GMT (which is 8:00pm Eastern, 5:00pm Pacific).
Once money is claimed in the users Vault they can transfer it anytime as long as they have a minimum of $20 to transfer. Users can transfer their earnings or jackpot winnings via Paypal. In the future additional payout options may be available. Users do not need to have a Paypal account prior to transferring winnings.
If you already have a Paypal account using the same email as your Varolo login email, then when you transfer your funds from Varolo to Paypal, they will automatically show up in your existing Paypal account.
If you have a Paypal account, but it does not use your Varolo email, then you can 1) add your Varolo email to your Paypal account so the funds transfer to your existing account or 2)Paypal will request that you setup a new account using your Varolo password.
If you don’t have a Paypal account at all, when you transfer your money from Varolo, Paypal will notify you that you have money waiting and will help you setup a new account.
If you don’t want to get paid via Paypal for for some reason cannot be paid via Paypal, you will have to allow your earnings to accumulate in Varolo until we have an alternate payout method.
Minors can have a Paypal account setup with their parents permission. Anyone can order a pre-paid Mastercard from Paypal and your Varolo earnings can be deposited directly to this card. See paypal.com for more details.
Varolo does not pay by check or by any other means other than Paypal at this time.
Question #21 When will my 2x Earnings show up from achieving my 3rd level?
Answer: When you achieve your 3rd level in Varolo, the reward is double village earnings for 1 month. Your extra earnings will appear in your Vault after the one month is complete. In fact, once you achieve the level, the following week starts the 4 weeks. Once the full 4 weeks are complete, during the following week a process is run that calculates and deposits those earnings in your Vault. So often people may wonder where there double earnings are. Don’t worry. They will show up after going through this process. Thanks.
